Book Review: Sewing Can Be Dangerous and Other Small Threads by SR Mallery

When I saw the word ‘Sewing’ in the title, I had to check out Small Threads. The way that SR Mallery used elements of unrelated genres in each story made reading them a real treat. Using subtly different styles and tones, he created each with an atmosphere that felt like traveling through time and around the world.

In this way, Mallery gave snapshots of the Salem witch trials, the days of the Underground Railroad, conflicts with Natives in pioneer America, and Kristallnacht, among other historic times. Joining these distinct, diverse stories into a seamless whole was genius. And each was a memorably good story!

Thank you to the author, SR Mallery, Mockingbird Lane Press, and Story Origin for the free advance reader’s copy of Sewing Can Be Dangerous. Though I’m grateful, their gift did not encumber me with any obligation. I’m recommending it because it’s a wonderful book!
