A Light-Hearted Sojourn In Limbo

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Book Review:

Madame Zenayda and the Earthbound Spirits by Marie Brack

Madame Zenayda Discovering the Afterlife: digital collage by Catriona Lovett using book cover illustration by White Rabbit Graphix

When Madame Zenayda is confronted with the beginning of her afterlife, she must question everything: her own life’s choices; where she is now and what does it mean; what she can fill her endless time with; and what will happen next. The trouble is, she must discover the answers for herself.

Fortunately, other spirits who have been stuck there longer give her clues and she becomes determined to put them together. Her journey of discovery is gently transformative and sometimes funny. However, there are extremely dangerous elements to contend with that give the story action and suspense.

Madame Zenayda and the Earthbound Spirits is well-written, humorous, and entertaining, but also gave me some deep issues to think about. I grew very fond of Madame Zenayda herself, and the rest of the characters, for good or ill, were vividly developed even if their appearances were brief. Marie Brack is a gifted writer. I hope she’ll write more stories like this!
